AFRIPIXEL Competition Rules
By submitting your image to the Competitions Gallery, you will be agreeing to the following rules:
- Judges will be appointed by Afripixel. The judges’ decision on all matters relating to the competition will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. Should the quality of entries fall below the standard required, Afripixel reserves the right not to award prizes.
- Prizes are not transferable, and will not be converted into cash or other alternatives.
- Images must be taken specifically by the entrant, who will warrant that all permissions necessary have been obtained from persons and locations displayed in the images submitted.
- Should any person be featured prominently in the image, a full Model Release form must be signed by the person, and must be provided to Afripixel should your entry win a competition. A sample Model Release form is available for download, however the photographer must satisfy themselves that this document will cover suitable legal rights.
- Should any private or publicly owned building, structure or property be featured prominently in the image, a Property Release form must be signed by the owner, and must be provided to Afripixel should your entry win a competition. A sample Property Release form is available for download, however the phoographer must satisfy themselves that this document will cover suitable right.
- You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright in the photographs entered. By entering a photograph(s) into any Afripixel Competition, you agree to grant a royalty-free non-exclusive license to Afripixel, its affiliates, and the sponsors of the competition, to allow the photograph(s) entered to be published in connection with the competition, and used by Afripixel at its discretion. In all instances where the image is used, the photographer's name will be credited and attached to the image.
- Finalists will be requested to submit a full-sized high resolution image to Afripixel for use in printed materials.
- No entry fee is required. Maximum 5 entries per person.
- Photographs may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches or to make images brighter, clearer etc, but the content may not be manipulated. The judges reserve the right to exclude any photograph they believe has been excessively treated, so as to alter its authenticity.
- Entries may only be submitted by means of the Afripixel website.
- All entrants agree that any photograph(s) they submit to the competition, may be used by Afripixel for marketing and promotional purposes directly related to Afripixel and the competition. This useage may include publication on the Afripixel website, marketing material or gallery exhibition. Use may also include publication in a sponsor publication.
- Any photographs used by Afripixel or the sponsors shall carry a credit to the photographer.
- Rules may be changed or modified without notice.

The competition will run until midnight on the stipulated closing date, whereupon no further submissions will be accepted for the competition. The judges will evaluate the images based on the following criteria:
a) Innovation in the interpretation of the theme
b) Composition
c) Visual impact
d) Any additional criteria that might be set for a specific competition. - In some circumstances, the judges may decide to open the judging to also include voting from the members of Afripixel. Should this be the case, this will be stipulated no later than the closing time of the competition.

Submissions must comply with the following:
a) Submitted images may not be larger than 1024 pixels on their longest side, or larger than 250kb in size. Images larger than this will be rejected.
b) Submissions may not be enhanced with bordersof any kind.
c) Every image entered must include information on equipment / film and the technique used. Entries without the required information will not be considered. If relevant, you may be prompted fo the information.
d) Any image with a person featured in it must submit a signed Model Release form to Afripixel, should they win a prize in a competition. If no such document is available, the entry will be disqualified.
e) Any image with a building, structure or property featured in it must submit a signed Property Release form to Afripixel, should they win a prize in a competition. If no such document is available, the entry will be disqualified.
