World Wide Photo Walk 2011 - Soweto

01/10/2011 09:00
01/10/2011 12:00
Africa/Johannesburg

Walk in the footsteps of changing South Africa –

We start where Hector Pietersen was the first person killed in the 1976 Student Uprising in Soweto. We will meet in the car park of the Hector Pietersen Museum, and then take a walk through the streets of Orlando West to the famous Vilikazi Street, where we will be able to see the homes of no less than two Nobel Peace Prize Winners, Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu.

We will take a wander throught the streets, and stop at the Mandela Family Museum, and probably pause for refreshment at one of the local eateries.

The walk will end up back at the Hector Pietersen Museum, where you will be able to either go in and view the history surrounding the Soweto Students Uprising in June 1976, or climb back in your cars and head home to process your pictures, or go for it, and join with another walk in the afternoon. (Perhaps a few of us might end up in a Tavern.......)

Vulture Fundraising Gala Dinner

09/09/2011 19:00
Africa/Johannesburg

The Vulture Programme, together with the help of Leopard Lodge, will be hosting its first ever gala fundraising dinner on the 9 September 2011.

Based in the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains and home to the fourth largest Cape Vulture breeding colony globally, Leopard Lodge is ideally placed to host this event, in support of vulture conservation.

With good friends such as Michelle and Riaan Garforth-Venter joining us for this event, this evening promises to be an unforgettable night with a special appearance from Cody our Mazda Cape Vulture. We are also extremely privileged to have Rike Coetzer coming through to entertain us with some of her incredible music during the evening's festivities. (http://www.thesaxplayer.co.za/ ).

The evening will also hold a live auction where 100% of the proceeds will go towards vulture conservation, we have some amazing items up for grabs!
